Does my Statement of Account indicate that I am being audited?

I started with a new employer on 1 March 2014 and a full company vehicle is included in my package. Previously I neither had a company car, nor did I receive a travel allowance. My refund this year, as per my ITA34, is much more than in previous years. It seems that the company I work for also deducted almost R1000 per month too much fringe benefit tax from my salary if one compares the SARS calculation to the actual tax paid. I also did not log many private kilometres, since I am not office bound, as a sales rep, and often work from home. After I submitted my tax return, an ITA34 was issued and I was requested to submit documents such as my logbook, which is complete and according to the SARS template. A few hours after I submitted the documents, I received a notification that SARS has issued a Statement of Account. When I log into SARS eFiling, the status of my tax return shows as "correction applied". On the statement of account, there is a field indicating my tax return is subject to verification or audit, marked with a Y next to it, but there is no indication that I am being audited, other than this and I have not received a letter indicating that I am being audited yet. I have recieved no further communication from SARS. The Statement of account was issued on Friday. Does this mean that I am bring subjected to a full audit? What do I need to do?

Also, when I completed my tax returns via SARS eFiling over the past few years, the system indicated that all previous tax returns were complete. When I first started this year's tax return, the system indicated that I owe SARS the documentation relevant to the tax return which I submitted for 2012, despite the fact that I did indeed receive my refund for that year. Even when I request a Statement of Acccount dated from the 2011 tax year, there is no indication of anything beingoutstanding for the 2012 year. Could this be holding up my claim?

You mention that you received a Statement of Account. Did you receive an Assessment ( i.e. ITA34) which indicates the amount of the refund due to you? This document should have been issued and will indicate whether or not you need to submit documents for verification. If this is the case, you should receive a letter in a few days which will detail all the supporting documents you need to send to SARS. This is a random check by SARS and is extremely common.
SARS won't pay out the refund until the verification is complete and this can take up to 30 days.

Please see more details below on why refunds could be delayed.
Why haven't I received my tax refund yet?
