Hi, I would like to know how do I get taxed if I get paid a basic salary and commission? My basic is R6000 and get commission of 10% on each services after I have made over R10 000. Please help!

Does your employer not withhold any PAYE each month?

He does but now am confused because it changes every month. Isn't he suppose to tax my salary not my commission?

Commission is taxed and as your commission changes each month so will the tax. If you like you can apply for a tax directive from SARS so he deducts the same amount each month. Otherwise it is acceptable what he is doing.

I wanna understand you correctly. I get taxed twice - on my basic salary and commission as well?

You get taxed on your total earnings so you are not taxed twice, just on your income in total.

This month I got taxed on my commission on its own and still waiting for my payslip to have proof. Didn't receive my payslip from last month and just started working for this guy and something just doesn't add up. I need to get my facts right before I confront him.

I don't get paid R13 000 but that was what I brought in for the company because was out of work for 2 weeks I was sick. So they taxed me as if I earn that much.

They need to only tax on you on what you earned, you must go back and ask why are they taxing you on R13000.

You get taxed each month on all the money you earned so add up your commission and your salary and then use the SARS income tax calculator to work out how much tax you were supposed to pay.
