Correction not amended on eFiling

Hi Tim. I submitted my tax through SARS efiling. I am claiming for medical expenses not covered by Medical Aid. The amount to be paid out to me was R5 700. I then had to make a correction as I found another slip which was a lot of money, so I filed for a correction. The amount they paid out in the end, still reflected the initial amount of R5 700. What should I do?

SARS uses a very complicated formula to calculate whether your Out of Pocket medical expenses (i.e expenses not reimbursed by the medical aid) must reduce your total tax owing. The calculation depends on the income you earn and in many taxpayers' cases there actually is no reduction because the required threshold is not met, it is capped at a maximum.

Therefore, even though you submitted an additional invoice, it may not have made a difference to the overall medical aid tax credit.

Please read some more information below on how it works and also try out our Medical Aid Tax calculator to see if the additional amount changes the tax credit you should receive.
