Claiming a tax benefit for private car use without a car allowance

i use my private car daily for business - driving to and from client meetings. I do not receive a formal travel allowance or claim for petrol. Is there a way for me to claim depreciation or a tax benefit when I submit my tax return? if so where on the return do I do this

Do you keep a logbook and can you prove the business use of your car?

Hi, I keep a log book yes, what other proof would I need to be able to show?

If you can show in your contract of employment that you are expected to use your own car for business purposes or have something from your employer then you can depreciate the car over 5 years and apportion for the business use and claim that as a deduction.

Thanks very much for this. Would I still need to supply a logbook then?

Yes you would definitely need to supply a logbook as this is the proof of travel and the apportionment.

Thanks for this, so I have a letter from my company confirming use of the car and my logbook. Where would I claim for this as it doesn't allow me to claim under the normal car allowance expenses - would it be under 4027 - depreciation, or 4015 - travel expenses ?

The car itself would be under 4027 for depreciation, but make sure to apportion the depreciation based on the business use in the logbook.
