I have been doing my mom's tax return. She had hearing aids which her medical aid did not pay for last year. She gave me the paperwork and asked me to submit. Which I did. She now just told me that she forgot about the hearing aids and would like to have them claimed back. Is this now possible? According to the SARS eFiling website the claim is done (she owes nothing and will get back nothing). Can I do something to submit this?

You can click on the REQUEST Correction on the actual tax return and resubmit. Let me know if you have any issues.

Thank you Tim, I noticed that function and just wanted to confirm before I actually proceed.

I do have on last question though, my mom's medical aid is through the SANDF (my dad was in the air force). They do not make monthly contributions. They also would not give her hearing aids which she had fitted and paid for herself.

How do I complete the insure part? Do I tick yes in the first block, then add 1 member in each of the monthly blocks, put a 0 in the 4040 and then put the amount that requires to be claimed back in the 4020 block

I will appreciate your kind assistance

Thanks

Lizette

You can do the 4020 block regardless of the YES/No and then go ahead and include the amounts for the hearing aid.

Thank you. I did all this, however it seems that there is no benefit or rebate when I calculate the saved ITR12.

It still shows blank in the deductions line.

Her taxable income is 3603 - R62251.00 + 3610 - R23348.00.

The deduction for the hearing aids were R20255.00

I do not know where I am going wrong.

I did my father in law's exactly the same way and he gets a reduction shown

Sorry to be asking so many questions but please can you guide me?
Thanks

If your mother is over the age of 65 then her income is too low to be taxed so there won't be a benefit because you can only be refunded if you pay tax which it appears she does not.
