Hi Tim,
I am a provisional tax payer in the health sector- I am not salaried and work for myself. Am I able to claim back on fees for training courses and the travel costs(flights, car rental)?

Secondly, I occasionally rent out my flat and wondered if this money is declared regardless of the rent earned or if there is a minimum amount from which earnings should be declared. Thanks!

Yes, you can claim back on travel courses as long as they are in your line of work. You can also claim back travel costs if all are business related and incurred to generate income. If it was partially for private purposes, you would need to pro-rata costs accordingly between business and personal.

You should declare your rental income too. Read our blog on Rental property deductions to ensure you claim all related expenses too.
