Verification of Income Tax Return

I am somewhat panicked after receiving a "Verification of Income Tax Return" notice and a "Request for Relevant Material" notice. The problem arose (I think) under amounts submitted to, but not recovered from, my medical aid. I have now submitted the certificate from my medical aid reflecting the amount, however, I still do not have access to my IRP5/IT3(a) from my employer. I am very worried as I have never had any issues with SARS.

Why has your employer not provided your IRP5 to you yet?

All of the IRP5 information is on my efiling return, however, I am school teacher employed by the Education Department. When I phoned the Education Department to obtain a copy of my IRP5, they said I must get it from the school at which I work; the problem is that the school only reopens at the end of the 21 days ...

Did you click submit already for your documents to SARS or is it still open?

I have already submitted it, alas - just the medical certificate; not the IRP5.

You need to call SARS on 0800 00 7277 and ask them to reopen this - thereafter you actually have 42 days to submit the additional documents so you could wait to submit the IRP5 when you get it. Otherwise SARS may ignore the PAYE as per your IRP5.

Thank you, I will call them.

FYI: I have called SARS and they have advised me to wait the 21 days until the option to re-submit documents is re-opened.

That also works, but let us know if they issue you an additional assessment.

Following on from my previous messages on this topic, today I have received a "completion letter" stating:

"We refer to the verification of your assessment for the 2015 tax period. Please note that no adjustment has been made to this assessment."

Is this good or bad? If good, then when can I expect to receive my refund?

Thanks.

This is good, which means nothing has changed. So you should receive your refund in a day or two.
