Should I have proof of out of pocket medical expenses?

I didn't keep any invoices for my out of pocket medical expenses, can I still claim on them?

You should have proof of all medical expense claims when submitting for a deduction. However some people include the amounts on their return hoping that SARS won't request supporting documents. Be sure to try get these invoices and proof of payment though.

Thanks, I will rather not include them then. It is anyways such small amounts, I doubt if it will make any difference.

The extra medical expenses deduction is based on a very complicated formula and needs to be very large in order for it to benefit you, so I would agree if you don't have proof and it is small then leaving it out is the better option.
