Income Tax Verification

Hi Tim, My accountant has phoned and stated that "SARS now needs supporting documents to verify my return submitted by my accountant." Could this mean that I mite well be up for selection for an audit? if not, how long does this verification process take before I receive my return?

Thanks for the question! It does mean that you are having your tax affairs verified by SARS, but don't be scared it is not a traditional audit. SARS wants to check the information they have matches up with the information you have submitted.

The unfortunate answer is that SARS can take anywhere between 1 day and 9 months to finalise this process. My only advice is to forget about it and when the sms arrives with the refund then spend wisely.
