How to claim medical expenses for 2013

I pay medical for myself and 3 dependents - so therefore a total of R768.00 per month I can claim back for - right? What about expenses not covered by the medical aid? What I am not understanding - do we at the end of the day get paid out, or not?

When you submit the 2013 tax return, which will only be in July 2013, you will complete the box which asks for all expenses not covered by the medical aid. You would include all those costs there. Remember these are only expenses such as medication from the pharmacist, doctor's visits and other similar medical costs.

SARS has a formula for determining what amount of these costs you will be allowed to deduct, but you should always fill in the entire amount. You would only receive the allowed portion of these expenses when you complete your year end tax return.
