Earning Oz dollars, living in SA, how do I get taxed?

Hi, I am an SA citizen, and I hold Australian permanent residency. I will be doing some research for an Australian University next year. I will be paid in Oz dollars into my Oz bank account and this will be my only income. However, I will primarily reside in South African during that year and take 4 or 5 trips over to Oz during the course of the year. What are tax implications?

Where will you be performing the work and will there be taxes withheld by the university?

Thanks for the reply, the work will be done here in SA and in Oz. Mostly remote analaysis and writing while in SA. Yes, I assume normal taxes will be withheld by Uni in Oz.

It would appear you are South African tax resident earning foreign currency for work performed in SA for a foreign company. Therefore you would be taxed in South Africa on your earnings. However you would be entitled to claim the taxes paid in Australia against any taxes owed in South Africa.
