I submitted my tax and was told how much of a R,,,, amount I will be getting back(great news). However straight after I submitted I realized there is a stack of receipts at home for medical bills that I did not enter. Is it too late to correct the already submitted tax return?

How long will it take to get assessed and refunded( it will definitely be more than the R,,, amount they gave me today). How long do I have to make a correction if I can?

No, it should not be too late. You must log into SARS SARS eFiling, go to your tax return history and click on the link "Request Correction". You can then refile a new tax return with the additional medical bills.

HI tax tim, thanks you very much.

I have added on R8000 in medical payments not recovered by my scheme, however when I calculate my rebate, my cash back hasn't changed, is that correct?
It doesn't make sense.

SARS uses a very complicated formula to calculate whether your Out of Pocket medical expenses (i.e expenses not reimbursed by the medical aid) must reduce your total tax owing. The calculation depends on the income you earn and in many taxpayers' cases there actually is no reduction because the required threshold is not met.

Therefore, even though you submitted an additional invoice, it may not have made a difference to the overall medical aid tax credit.

Please read some more information below on how it works and also try out our Medical Aid Tax calculator to see if the additional amount changes the tax credit you should receive.
