Can I claim the distance traveled from home to the office as part of my travel allowance claim?

I receive a car allowance. At present I claim my business km's from my office ,do my work and till I come back. A colleague says that SARS allows to claim business km's from my home until I get back home at night.

In other words the portion I drive to work and then back home, I should be allowed to claim for. Is this correct?

You may not claim the distance traveled to work from home and back as part of business mileage as this is considered personal travel by SARS. Only business trips done from your office to other offices or places of work can be considered business travel for travel allowance purposes.
