Hi TaxTim, I work as a vehicle sales executive, which means I have a company vehicle which I use for both business and personal use. I did keep a log book. On my payslip it is reflected under "taxable perks". "I also paid Vat on Co car" which is showed on my payslip under deductions. I also had a fuel allowance but that is not reflected on my payslip because the company I worked for owns a fuel station and we had "fuel tags". The vehicle was not maintained by me, but I just want to find out if I...

I am a member of a CC and a partner in a partnership. We are the two same people in both the partnership and the CC. From our activities in the CC, we came upon another way to make money and after a period of testing, we decided to split the other way off our CC activities, so the Partnership became a new business. In order to make this new income stream work, we need to travel and test tourism opportunities in SA as well as some of our neighboring countries to be able to build an internet commu...

I have a question about the SARS rebate for out-of-pocket medical expenses: According to your blog post (https://www. Taxtim. Com/za/blog/medical-aid-tax-2014-how-sars-new-changes-affect-you), medical expenses only qualify for rebate IF medical aid contributions are greater than 4x the fixed tax credit. (Assuming the taxpayer is under 65 and not disabled. ) However, on the SARS website (http://www. Sars. Gov. Za/TaxTypes/PIT/Pages/Additional-Medical-Expenses-Tax-Credit. Aspx), under Examples 2...

I am a full time employed software engineer. I am looking at buying an Apple MacBook Pro Retina priced at R28000, from FNB for R1200 per month over 24 months. This purchase is in part for my work and in part for personal work. How do I determine if I qualify for the "Wear and Tear" tax deduction and for how much I will I qualify? Do I submit this with my annual personal tax?
From www. Taxim. Com [https://www. Taxtim. Com/za/help/definition/wear-and-tear] I calculated:

Is it possible to be an independent contractor for a small SA business at the same time as being listed as a director for that same company? I contract my services to a private SA company which 100% owned by a London business. The SA company has no full time staff and contracts work out to highly skilled consultants on a job by job basis in order to complete the work. The reason the company has no full time staff is that it operates in a niche market where work is not always regular. I conduct ...

Hi Tim,
Last year up to July I was paying into an RA with Provider A. I then transferred this to another RA provider B. An amount of R109k was transferred to the new RA after a few deductions. I received a tax doc from Provider A for my contributions up to July. I also received a tax doc for my contributions from new Provider B. However I have just received a tax doc from Provider A stipulating the amount paid out (R109k) and logged against code 3698. This looks like I earned this am...
