I am joining my husband in the UK shortly and want to know if I will need a Tax Clearance certificate from SARS in order to leave the country on a one way ticket through my spousal settlement visa. We have no assets in South Africa and I was under the threshold regarding income tax (tax was paid by my employer and I never submitted a tax tax return). We may be coming back to South Africa at a later stage and do not want to give up residency.
My B&B started trading in Aug 2015, it's year end is Sep so the first set of Annual Financial Statements will be dated Sep 2016 (14 months). Our management accounts dated April 2016 reflect our revenue is already around R650,000. We are not yet registered for VAT but we'll be doing so very soon. My concern is do we now have to register, submit and pay all the VAT from Aug 2015 to current, OR do we just register, submit and pay from now going forward? I read somewhere that according to the VAT Ac...

I want to become a Forex Trader and would like you to advise me on how do I go about? (do I need to form some sort of form from SARS for tax or the money/profit that I will be receiving from overseas would be already taxed and if so what is the name or type of that Tax)
I am currently working at an NPO and earning R 6000 per month. Currently the organisation is taxing me R300 per month (although this often fluctuates randomly). There are no further deductions, apart from UIF. As far as I am concerned, and according to all research I have done, I am not meant to even be paying tax on this amount. Could you please clarify if this is correct, and if not, who can I approach with regards to this money that seems to be going missing? Thank you in advance.
I have a client who is the director of a small company (pty). Currently the profit of the company is less than R50 000. He has no other income. The PTY is registered for tax and and has submitted tax returns. The director is not registered for income tax. If he declares the R50 000 as his salary does he even need to submit a tax return as he is below the threshold?
I am a freelance artist, I want to work fulltime for myself, but can't be certain how much I will make or whether I would make any money at all. I am married in community of property. My husband is lucky enough to have an employer that takes care of his submission every year. I need to ask whether I should add my income to his submission or whether I should have my own tax number. I tried to enlighten myself by reading the Tax website,, but it's all greek to me, I can't seem to figure it out. I ...

Myself and my associates have just opened a restaurant. We formed a new company for this restaurant and spent R1. 2m on installations. It has been trading for approximately 5 weeks and has done about R600K in turnover. We are expecting to surpass the R1m VAT threshold sometime in April. We have already put in our registration application for VAT however we have not yet received our number, which might take a few more months. While we are waiting, what should our invoices to clients look like? Sh...
I am about to start 2 different half day jobs. In the morning I work for an organisation and in the afternoon I work for an individual. Should I expect the individual I work for to deduct PAYE or should I put it the PAYE amount away and pay it as personal income tax?
I have recently employed 8 people, who each earn R5376 basic salary R 1397. 76 overtime allowance per month. When I enter these figures on the payroll system that I'm using, tax is calculated at R 94. 28.... I'm confused - Is this correct? I thought only people earning above R120 000 pa pay tax?
I am 68 years of age and live off dividends which are taxed before I receive the money. I have a cottage attached to my house (which I own) which I rent out on short term rentals through Airbnb etc. How much do I have to earn per annum before I would have to pay tax on this added income?
If a minor child inherits - how much do they have to earn before they must be registered for paying tax? If they are not liable for tax, does one as the parent still have to notify SARS that they have funds invested?
With regards to your post of 23 July 2012, about retirees aged 65 years and older: have there been any changes since then in SARS requirements for tax returns for the 2015/2016 tax year, or not? What benefits can such a taxpayer expect? What is the taxable threshold for a taxpayer 74 years of age (turning 75 in June 2016)? Where do donations fit into all of this? 1. Main source for living expenses is interest income. 2. Medical aid premium is paid by the retiree in full, in addition to medical expenses which go beyond medical aid benefits. ...
