SARS says there is an outstanding amount from a RA in a 2012 Tax Return, because of this I have a very high penalty to pay. I can not find this documentation, even after I've requested it from my RA at the time. What do I do if the numbers don't add up, and I can't find this document.
I am a real estate agent and require a vehicle to travel to appointments, etc. Would it be better to buy a vehicle (new or used) or lease a vehicle? My understanding is there are greater tax benefits in leasing (claim 100%) while buying a vehicle there is only a portion of the vehicle and interest you can claim. Is this correct? Which would you recommend?
I am an independent contractor. I have used my vehicle for business use (without making a claim for re-imbursement) and have recorded this in a logbook. May I claim depreciation for my vehicle (under 4027)? Also where do I claim my business mileage travelled (code 4015 is greyed out)? And what value do put in as a claim? Is it the km multiplied by some rate? And what rate would that be?
I also have used my cell phone to make business calls and have ADSL which I use for doing work related activities. Where do I claim these amount?...
SARS are requesting IRP5's from me for 2006 & 2007 before they will release a refund for my current 2015 tax return. Problem is I don't have the IRP-5's anymore and neither does my employer. For what period are they supposed to keep it on their records? Please advise because I don't know what to do now.
Dear Tim, Are there any taxes due in South Africa, if my daughter (non SA resident, living in Australia and having Australian passport) donates money (more than ZAR100K) to her parents, and we do not transfer the money to SA and keep them within a bank outside SA (UK or other place) and in different currency? 1. Do we have to declare such a donation on our tax returns and what are the tax complications here? 2. Do we have to declare this account/amount every year in our tax returns and pay some taxes like capital gain tax as a result of Rand depreciation?...
I have submitted my 2015 tax return and they won't pay me until I have done my 2013 tax return. I worked at a different company in 2013 and never received an IRP5 from them. I contacted them to get my IRP5 from 2013 and they can't give it to me. What do I do now?
I am currently at the travel allowance part of my tax return. This question arises. Do you receive a travel allowance from your employer? Click Yes if source codes 3701 or 3702 appear on your IRP5, AND if you kept a vehicle logbook. My answer is no as those source codes do not appear on my IRP5. However I am a full commission earner and keep a logbook. Where will I input those figures/amounts?
I have been requested to submit to SARS A4 copies of the relevant material in support of the following declarations:
For source code 4027, depreciation of R6,299. 00 has been assessed against my ITR12 tax return and I have been asked for supporting documents. I purchased a laptop with my own money that I use after hours to catch up on work. What document needs to be submitted and what should it state?
I am permanently employed and work from home. I also have a freelance business that I run after business hours, using the same equipment (laptop, printer, office furniture) and space that I use working for my permanent employer. I have noticed that under the "Tax Deductions" and "Business and Rental Income" sections that there are duplicate questions regarding depreciation, travel costs, lease and electricity expenditure used during earning my monies. Do I complete both sections with the same in...
I am a SARS commission earner. I would like to claim back the use of my vehicle to earn commission. I have a detailed logbook. Where and how do I claim these expenses? According to the TaxTim wear and tear calculator, I should use deemed cost, however I never received a travel allowance on my IRP5.
I filed my tax return on Friday 30 October 2015 and SARS said they are now using a new system and said the they need me to file tax returns from 1991-2003. I can not get these IRP's or medical certificates. What must I do? When I went to file my tax return in 2013 they asked me to get the documents from 2006-2013 and file for each year. I got that documents and filed and paid a R500. 00 penalty. They did not ask for anything else and said I was up to date. This year they ask for 1991-2003. Pleas...
I own 18 rental apartments which I am renting out. I will be retiring next year from my employment and concentrating on managing these properties and also doing related maintenance myself. I currently own a SUV vehicle which I intend keeping and using it for both property maintenance and also private purposes. Will the tax authorities allow a portion of the vehicle expenses as tax deductible against the rental income to the extent they relate to property maintenance, or do I necessarily need to ...
On the 31st January 2013, a company purchased computer equipment R34,750. This equipment was stolen on the 1st October 2014 and Insurance proceeds of R14,500 were received. What would the tax deduction be?
With respect to self-employed individuals for the 2015 tax year... What is the write off period for a vehicle used for business travel? Is the cost of the vehicle divided by 4 or 7 years? I'm trying to calculate the wear and tear amount which I can include for the calculation of actual costs. Thanks!
I resigned from my job in 2010 and took my pension to buy a small business, which I ran as a sole proprietor for 2. 5 years. During this time, I did not submit a tax return, as I wasn't sure how to do it. Also, I was not making much profit and more or less came out even at the end of every month. I then passed the business on to my son-in-law and started working again in 2013. All the income and expenditure info relating to the business was contained on a laptop, which subsequently crashed, so I...
I have recently starting working from home as a free-lance food journalist. I had to purchase office and kitchen equipment to use to do my job. How do I claim these as expenses? Do I claim the full amounts (If the items cost less than R7000 each) under deductions/depreciation? Or must I use the calculator to work out the percentage and then deduct that amount each year?
Commission earner - Please inform me how to calculate the following: # travel expenses with a log book # without a log book - expenses incurred are as follows: fuel, toll, maintenance, license # depreciation of a motor vehicle
If you use items like a laptop or car for work purposes and want to claim depreciation value back from SARS, does the item need to be new or for how many years can you claim the value back? Older posts →← Newer posts1234567891011121314
